 I don't remember the title of this particular fic, but I do remember that it involved Dean (17, almost 18) being raised in foster care. He was taken (possibly by the YED, can't be positive on that point, though) while out getting groceries when he was about 12. John eventually gave him up for dead. Dean managed to escape and was put in care. He and Sam meet through school and end up helping each other on a hunt when John is out of town. Sam doesn't realize it's Dean until much later in the story. Dean ends up living with Sam and John after his foster father breaks Dean's arm and John gets pissed (does the whole protective!John thing:)

It was a WIP when I was reading it and the need for closure on this is just hurting me, seriously.

I think John was amused about Dean's assigned last name: Hunter, if I recall that right.

Seriously, anyone who can point me in the right direction on this (or anyone with good fic similar to this) I would be forever grateful.
