I'm looking to read stories that make me cry. They can be sick, hurt or death fics. Fiction about self-sacrifice, Cancer or dying to save family are preferred. I prefer stories per- series or set in later seasons 8, 9, or 10. Sam or Jared as main character please.

Self-rec shortie: This Could Be the Saddest Dusk (http://quickreaver.livejournal.com/104819.html) : Season 10 episode tag. What if Castiel had to end up killing demon!Dean? What might Sam do?

Probably one of the saddest hurt!Sam fics I've ever read is A Bleak Understanding in Reverse (https://archiveofourown.org/works/260455?view_adult=true), by lustmordred. I cannot recommend this strongly enough. It will shred your heart!

This story. OMG, I cried. Should have warning for character death. As Brothers We Will Stand (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2200107) - Dean hadn't planned on seeing Sam again. Ever. But now, Dean's life is spilling out onto the driver's seat of the Impala from a gash in his back and there is really only one person who can help. Told from Dean's perspective but focus is on Sam.

This one is just angsty, but I love it, featuring a suicidal Sam in an AU where Adam has grown up with the brothers. Sam tries to be everything for his brothers, but he's breaking inside. Needed (http://archiveofourown.org/works/930891) - Dean is the eldest, Adam is the beloved little brother, and Sam is left to pick up the pieces of himself every time his family shatters him.

The Choosing my Confessions (http://archiveofourown.org/series/16948) series by de_nugis stabbed me in the heart.

Okay, so I don't generally read much from the later seasons, but I have a couple of recs.
New World Order (http://archiveofourown.org/works/993743) by nwspaprtaxis
Summary: The Winchesters manage to close the gates of Heaven and Hell, a final act that had rendered one blind and crippled, bedridden for the rest of his days, the other broken into particles as numerous as the stars or grains of sands across Heaven. This is Cas' story.
Pillars of Salt and Pillars of Sand (http://archiveofourown.org/works/3125654) by nwspaprtaxis
Summary: Post-8.23. Sam completed the Trials and successfully sealed off Heaven and Hell at great cost to his physical and mental health. He no longer hunts, choosing to carve out a retirement for himself in the bunker, while Dean isn’t quite ready to settle down just yet. Until he has to.
Ten Years Before the Flood (http://ficviendha.livejournal.com/93195.html)
Summary: You never even had a chance to try to save him. AU. (This one is a post season 3 au that is pretty much guaranteed to make you cry.)
