RPF general fic search

Hi guys! General search here today. I'm wanting to read any long plotty RPF fics. I prefer non-au, J2 (but will read others) and LOVE anything with major angst and past abuse types (abusive ex/family/etc - basically anything that'll make me cry!). I love possessive/protective/jealous-ness in fics as well (goes nicely with the angst!).

My main criteria though is that the fic is well written- so even if it is Au feel free rec away! Any Self recs are always welcome, any kinks - Although not too keen on Mpreg or a/b/o.

Okay, I haven't even read it yet because she just posted it today, but your description fits almost perfectly to alexisjane's fresh J2 BB, I Stumble Forward (http://alexisjane.livejournal.com/74875.html).

I believe it's not AU (I'm not sure what AU for RPF stands for, but I assume it's where they're not actors on spn), but I can assure you before even reading it that it's very well written, and probably full of angst.

Summary
Jensen is trying to start a new life and not complicate it with a past he isn't ready to share with potential girlfriend, Genevieve. But when she introduces him to her troubled brother, Jared, things get complicated fast and the men end up with a secret of their own. But there's another secret, one which neither of them holds, one that will not just break their lives apart emotionally but could have bloody, fatal consequences. If Jensen can pick his way through the minefield of lies and half truths, he and Jared might finally have a chance at happiness – Sometimes you have to save someone else, before you can save yourself.

Warnings:
inaccurate depictions/descriptions of addiction and recovery/mental health issues/medical intervention/the IT industry/Texas, self harm, blood, unsafe driving practices, M/M sex, mentions of past parental death, unhappy childhood, messed up family dynamics/relationships, little itty bit of homophobia.

Yeah, the au for rpf threw me too! Never read rpf before but from what I thought id understood au was like them being firemen or something (with non-au having them as actors I guess?). Cheers for the awesome rec- sounds exactly what im after - its next on my to read pile!!

The whole non-AU vs AU thing confuses the hell out of me, but if I understand correctly non-AU means that J2 are actors working on SPN??

So based on that theory, the fic that jumps straight to mind is "The Courtship of Jensen's Co-Star" (http://the8threalm.livejournal.com/28511.html) - qblackheart
There's no abuse, but there is a tonne of angst blended beautifully with the hotness. It was the first ever J2 fic I read, so there's a bit of a crush there, but I read its 100K+ words over three days and two years later it still effects me.

For the AU category I vote for "Deadline on Love" (http://lycaness.livejournal.com/28806.html) - by lycaness, it also covers the abusive family, protective/possessiveness kinks you enjoy; but J2 are 16-17 just in case that's a problem. Gah, yeah, I thought Id figured out the right terminology! From what ive been able to understand (or thought id figured out!) au is other jobs and non au is still actors. Or something like that!!

If you have never read RPF, you should definitely try "The Doors of Time", even though it is au. The main story clocks in at 186.000 words with 90.000 words worth of timestamps. The abuse happens off screen between part 1 and 2 of the main story, but even before that there is lots of angst.
Summary for the first part of the main story: "It’s not like he doesn’t try to fit in and make friends, he really does. It just seems like nothing he does is good enough for them. If he smiles they blink. If he speaks they stare. And whenever they see him coming they get this panicked look in their eyes like they want to run away and they don’t even know why.
Jensen knows why. It’s the same thing that makes his dad worry and his mom cry. That makes Nana tell his parents he’s going to Hell, not even caring that he can hear her.
It’s what makes him ‘weird’."

A non-au that I really like is "When your lover breaks". There is no past abuse, but there is an accident with lots of angst:

Another au is A Kept Boy: "A Kept Boy is an RPS AU involving slavery, abuse (adult and child) in all forms (verbal, physical, mental), inequalities of power, and dark, adult concepts regarding same. At heart, it's a love story, but it goes through some bad, dark places to get there."
