I saw this question on Tumblr, and I thought I would post it here and help a stranger/friend out.

Plus it sounds like an interesting read.

"I remember reading this looong non-AU (at least I’m pretty sure it was) J2 fic, and I really wanna find it again. But the problem is.. I can’t remember the author, I can’t remember the title, I just remember this random little detail:

Jared and Jensen go into a bookshop and Jensen looks at a storybook his mother used to read to him, a first edition or some sort of special version anyway. He doesn’t buy it. They go outside, and Jared says he forgot to buy something, and then goes back in.

Shit happens, and so Jared doesn’t give the book to Jensen until a year or so after. Jensen opens the present on a plane and reads the words Jared wrote on the first page and the whole thing made me cry and it was lovely and I need it back into my life."

Since I'm not familiar with the fic, I couldn't tag much more than pairing.

They went to Powell's bookstore in Portland. I remember reading it and googlng the store. It's an entire city block.

I can't remember anything else about it, though would they have been visiting Kane?
This one is going to drive me mad. Pretty sure I found it on a fic list, so it's either a big bang or has been recc-d by lexilla (I get a lot of fics through those sites)

I know I've read this but I can't think of anything to help in the search. *tracks post*

i'm, like, 90% certain it's between miles and a stone's throw (http://alasse.livejournal.com/92358.html) by [livejournal.com profile] alasse. it's one of my favourites.

Not the op or anything but that's it. I read a bit of it and it mentions Powell's book (like the anon above said) but it wasn't his mother who read the book (The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) to him as a child; it was his grandfather.

As I just posted on Tumblr too, I could swear I just read Stone's Throw a few weeks ago so I would remember if it was that one. BUT, it really must be it since The Little Prince is mentioned, and everything. I must've confused this one with something I actually did read just a while ago :)

Anyway, going to read it again, it's definitely one of my all-time favourites.

I am SO, SO thankful for all your help. I can not believe how awesome this fandom is.

Hugs and loads and loads of J2 flavored kisses, Fanchester @ Tumblr.
