I'm looking for a specific kind of fic. Think James Bond/Bourne identity - mystery/thriller is the type but it doesn't have to be only those genres (for example the movie Speed had this sort of tension). I'm looking for stories that grab hold of you and you find yourself wanting to rush through to find out what happens, but at the same time don't want to miss a word - edge of your seat, finger gripping, roller coaster rides of tension.

Any pairing, characters or gen welcome. I'm more interested in plot and pacing than anything else.

I'm not looking for just interesting or attention getting fics, but the stuff that actually causes your gut to roll and you're leaning into the screen waiting for it to unfold - exciting/dramatic!

Crossovers, fusions and RPF all welcome! Even other fandoms -although i realize this comm is primarily aimed at SPN. Self-recs welcome.

MODS - I have no idea how to tag this. :(

Try The Winchester Identity (http://zuben-fic.livejournal.com/3108.html). The pairing is J2. To say any more about this would be a bit of a spoiler. She's based it on the Bourne books. I know there are others out there, but this is right up at the top of my favorite stories to read over and over.

Hmmm, this is tough (and makes me want to save my fics with another tag so I can find things like this easier...). Here are a couple that were like this for me-maybe for you too, I hope?

Last years Big Bang, Green means Go by Electricalgwen, was awesome and now has a prequel- Black Flag over Texas, from this years Big Bang.
Green means Go was the more action-packed of the two but both are great stories.

Definitely seconded.
I'd read "Green means Go" first, even though it is set after "Black Flag". It just reads better that way, and the impact of "Green means Go" is much bigger if you don't read all the 'before'-stuff and concentrate on now (especially since so much is still a mystery and should remain that way).

Black Flag is awesome and SHOULD be read, but still, read "GmG" before.

dress me up in stitches http://the-sammykinz.livejournal.com/2859.html
Summary: Ten years ago, a killer—the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the Boston Strangler—took four victims through slow, bloody, disfiguring deaths. He kidnapped five young men and women, but only killed four—one survived, and he never knew. The murderer, smarmy and smug with warm blood on his hands, was never caught. Today, Jared Padalecki—a newly-single Texan college dropout—came to Boston in hope of starting over, and moved in with his (reluctant) brother, Jeff. Jared got a job at a quirky grocery store, but something was missing from his life… and then it waltzed right in. “It” being Jensen Ackles, a timid but beautiful stranger who had a secret—one that everybody but Jared seemed to know.
This is a WIP, but it seems to be updated kinda often.

The Inscription http://alienat.livejournal.com/54691.html
Summary: Detective Jensen Ackles has a huge problem. A serial killer is on the loose in New York City. The victims, young and beautiful women, all bear the same inscription: JP. Soon it becomes clear that Jared Padalecki, former star detective with NYPD, is what the initials stand for. Padalecki, however, left NYPD eighteen months prior, after his sister fell victim to the Venus Killer, and has no intention of ever coming back to the game.

If you like Mpreg http://fatebegins.livejournal.com/14137.html#cutid1 has some really great ones. Espically, And This too shall pass away.

This is edge-of-seat business:

Pretty gory, but it kind of had to be given the situation. Not gratituitous.

Fleshflutters awesome 'Spy Verse'

http://fleshflutter.livejournal.com/49137.html

A J2 AU in which Jared is a secret agent and Jensen is his handler/support tech.

This is the mother of all James Bond type stories, it has an amazing twist you won't see coming.

In Retrospect (I'd rather have been a poet) (http://jasmasson.livejournal.com/98761.html) by [livejournal.com profile] jasmasson - “The mission had ended badly, no question – anything involving a truckload of bodies and a trip to a medical center hardly counted as an unqualified success. It all started when an error in intelligence caused Jared and Jensen to trip a security wire on the way out. After that, everything had gone downhill very fast.”

Third Party Ripoff (http://insane-songbird.livejournal.com/70923.html) (Sequel: Mandatory Refusal (http://insane-songbird.livejournal.com/10729.html)) by [livejournal.com profile] insane_songbird - Jared Padalecki works covert operations for the CIA. When he is sent to investigate the involvement of a drug cartel in the financing of international terrorism he finds himself in the lion’s den. The only person who seems to be on his side is the scary but very intriguing arms dealer Jensen. But things are not what they seem.

Fresh Blood (http://bertee.livejournal.com/66352.html) by [livejournal.com profile] bertee - After rescuing slave!Jensen from a people-eating space monster, intergalactic problem-solver!Jared tries to solve the problem of what to do with him now. However, when long-suffering mentor!Jeff inadvertently lands them all in a city full of vampires, simply staying alive becomes their biggest concern. (Sequel to The Future's Nothing New (http://bertee.livejournal.com/62066.html), which you might want to read first for understanding, but Fresh Blood's the more nail-biter of the stories.)

Sons of Mexico (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1900497/1/Sons_of_Mexico) by Mojave Dragonfly (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/454039/Mojave_Dragonfly) - Sands and El are both prisoners of a cartel. Can they trust each other enough to work together? Betrayals, coercion, and gun-slinging action. (Once Upon a Time in Mexico. You did say other fandoms.)

WIPS
Rule 26 (http://fleshflutter.livejournal.com/134565.html) by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter - A mash-up of Star Wars, Flash Gordon and a few other sci-fi stalwarts.
In which there is a galaxy-spanning evil empire, a mission to kidnap a henchman of the aforementioned evil empire, and Jared is a resistance fighter on the aforementioned kidnapping mission.

Justify the way you live a lie (http://bertee.livejournal.com/12983.html) by [livejournal.com profile] bertee - Jared was a good cop. He put criminals behind bars, knew the importance of evidence, and always handled victims with the utmost professionalism. However, that was before he met the timid boyfriend of a previously uncatchable drug dealer.

all J2

Oh, cool. My absolute favorite kind of story - hope there'll be some here that I don't know yet as well :)

Here are some from my collection:
If I had to choose, I'd say this is my favorite.
In this windy City (http://dugindeep.livejournal.com/185810.html): Chicago Homicide Detectives run themselves all over the city to tie together a handful of bodies, a potential scandal with a local Alderman, an unnamed dirty cop, and a possibly even dirtier partner. In Chicago, it's not just the wind that'll get you ...

... but the others I have bookmarked are also damn good, so I'm glad I don't need to choose!
Jensen Ackles doesn't exist (http://xen-fic.livejournal.com/3073.html): It's your average damaged!Jensen gets kidnapped by art thief!Jared story...

In Harm's Way (http://gatorgrrrl.livejournal.com/98388.html): Jared Padalecki is living a quiet life in San Antonio until one day he is snatched off the street by two men. Enter Tom Delaney, CIA spy. Only that's not his real name. His real name is Jensen Ackles, and he needs Jared's help. Jensen and his team have been tracking a man named Alain Laurent, a terrorist disguised as a legitimate businessman. With a little manipulation, Jensen convinces Jared to help. But nothing is ever that simple. As Jensen and Jared become more than just professional colleagues, the stakes become even higher. And when their mission takes an unexpected turn, Jensen must decide between love and duty, with devastating consequences.
