Sam or Dean realizing they were raised problematically

Hi!

I'm looking for any fic in which Dean or Sam (or both, of course) come to understand that the way John (or whoever) raised them was not ok. It can be as adults or as kids, I just want to read about how they realized that. Can be gradual or over a specific event (I prefer gradual, I imagine even now Sam could still think back about something and realize that was not ok) - but either way is awesome. Fic in which they get protective of each other are great, though I prefer the realization to be about themselves.

Self recs are awesome. Any or no pairing is awesome, though please no character bashing for Sam or for Dean. Basically, if there's something you're not sure about but might be awesome - please do bring it on!
