team free will / castiel centric recs

hi! so, i'm currently reading hail mary and i just feel for cas so much right now, because of how he holds onto his broken faith and his too-big heart and how he sees beauty in humanity, and it makes me sad to think of how he probably feels lost and alone sometimes, like he doesn't belong.

i'd like to read some fics that have sam and dean appreciating cas, treating him like family. team free will dynamics and like cas finally found a place where he belongs. and they don't just abandon him and take care of him when he's weak or crazy or whatever. fics where cas gets promoted (like to an archangel) would be awesome too!

also, i love gabriel and it'd be great if he's also a member of team free will or helps them out more often.

gen or slash, but destiel for the slash please - i don't ship sastiel. oh, and no 'normal' au.

Coming Down On A Sunny Day (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2276331/chapters/5002224) by maychorian. It's also on FF.net but the author's name is lauraofmaychoria.

Summary: In 2009, Castiel watches the Apocalypse end disastrously and makes a decision. In 1984, John Winchester suddenly finds himself with another little boy on his hands, one with dark, messy hair and sad blue eyes who won't leave John and his sons alone.

It's gen and has a really interesting Jimmy & Cas relationship as well as a family relationship w/ the Winchesters.

Hi, I thought I replied to this but it seems not, sorry about that.
I think this Jimmy is pretty well-written. I don't know how much to tell you for spoilers, but it starts off with him as a child and he & Cas go through aging together with Sam and Dean. He is religious and it does play a role in his character, but I think it's really well woven into the story and makes it meaningful. I think the way the author handles Jimmy & Cas gives both of them a more rich character and story line. FWIW.
